Privacy Policy

Version v1-2026-08-21 · Effective August 21, 2026

Self-published v1 — this policy has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel. A formal legal review is scheduled as the platform grows.

1. The short version

We collect the minimum needed to run a chess platform, we don't sell any of it, we show no ads, and staked-match records are public on purpose — that's how you verify us.

2. What we collect

When you register: a display name, an email address (used to sign in; we send no marketing email), your date of birth (used to confirm you are 18 or older), a password (stored only as a cryptographic hash — we cannot read it), one-time recovery codes (also stored hashed), and your Terms acceptance record (version, time, and your 18+ attestation). When you play: your moves, results, timestamps, and rating. If you link a wallet: its public address — never a private key, which we refuse by design. If you pay for membership with tokens: the transaction is on a public blockchain, and we record its identifiers to grant your membership.

3. What's public on purpose

Staked-match records — including wallet addresses, wager identifiers, on-chain transactions, and game fingerprints — are published on our Transparency page so anyone can verify the money handling. Ratings and match results appear on the ladder. Assume anything on-chain is permanent and public.

4. Technical data

Our servers see your IP address and use it for rate limiting and security logs. Before real-money staked play, your IP address will also be checked against a location database to enforce the Restricted Jurisdictions list; that check runs on our own server — your IP is not sent to the database's vendor. We use one session cookie to keep you signed in. If something breaks in your browser, we receive a basic error report — the error message and where in the app it happened; never page content or keystrokes. No advertising cookies, no third-party trackers, no analytics scripts.

5. Who touches the data

Our infrastructure runs on hosting providers (currently Render for the application and Neon for the database), which process data on our behalf. If you connect a phone wallet, the WalletConnect relay carries the encrypted pairing between your wallet and your browser. Blockchains are public networks operated by no one and everyone. We do not sell, rent, or share your data for marketing — with anyone.

6. Retention and deletion

Account data is kept while your account exists. Email founder@wagermateapp.com to close your account; we delete what we lawfully can, noting that acceptance records may be retained as legal records and on-chain data cannot be deleted by anyone.

7. Age

WagerMate is for adults 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; underage accounts are closed.

8. Changes

This policy is versioned like our Terms; the stamp above tells you which version you're reading. Material changes will be announced in the product.
